{fashion meets interior design: scalamandre}

It's a perfect example of fashion meshing with interior decor ... the classic Zebras wallpaper is taking to the streets! This iconic print was actually commisioned in the 1940's by Gino's, an Italian restaurant at 780 Lexington Avenue in New York. Owner Gino Circiello was a hunter who couldn't afford to pay for an African safari, but he thought that he could at least afford zebras on his walls. His friend Franco Scalamandre was comissioned to design the now iconic paper. Now this lovely whimsical pattern is available as an umbrella! {$95 - Scalamandre}

You may remember seeing the wallcovering in the movie The Royal Tanenbaums:

Here it is in a powder room featured in Elle Decor by Miles Redd:

The Serengeti Green colorway was used in Kate Spade's bathroom, and my favorite is the use of Safari Brown in the powder room done by the fabulous Massucco Warner Miller:

Love it! Perfectly whimsical and traditional all at once :)
